Our Brother, Tom Roady
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:19:39 pm »

Dear friends,
Tom Roady passed away last night doing what he loved to do most.
He was starting a tour with Ricky Skaggs on the way to the first gig, fell asleep on the bus.
We will all miss him and everything he meant to all of us through the years.
He was family.
Rest In Peace.

Wow.  That was a LOT shorter than he was reporting his Drs giving him.

He lived large and he lived well.

Hello all,
We are so very sad about Tom's passing.
It turns out that it wasn't actually the cancer that took him:
Here is the Facebook post a little while ago from his wife Melanie:
"My sweet husband, Tom Roady, died last night. He was doing what he loved being on the road with Ricky Scaggs. Tom went to sleep on the tour bus heading to South Carolina and passed peacefully in his sleep. His big beautiful heart gave out in the end, not the cancer."
Nashville and the music world has lost The Mayor.
Rest In Peace, Yer Honor.
Love, Gina

Got to know Tom via email after making contact with David at Zendrum.

Made it to Rancho Roady in Nashville every year between 2000 and 2006, rooming for PASIC shows and buying my Zendrum in 2001.

Funny, generous, talented yet humble guy. My best friend.  8)

Unfortunately I cannot afford to go the funeral service this Sunday from Ireland but the entire Roady and Zendrum clan will be in my thoughts and prayers.

RIP Tom

Michael (your brother from another mother)

I never met the man, but I've heard nothing but good things about him.

Zendrummer in memoriam.  He will be missed.

Tom has introduced so many things to me that are possible with the Zendrum.  I will always be greatful to him for that.  He drove up to St. Louis a few years ago and that is when I met him for the first time.  He came by my house and introduced me to so many more possibilities of electronic drumming that it just blew my mind.  It was Tom that gave me the name of Pocket Master. We just became good friends and any time he was in town or I was passing through Nashville, we would get together and rock out on our Zendrums, and I felt honored when he started asking me how to do some of the things that I was doing on my ZX.  It is indeed a sad day in my home today, he will be missed.

It saddens me that Tom is no longer with us. He touched so many people in a positive way. We have lost a good friend in the Zendrum world. I know that I will not ever forget his love for Zendrum, music, life. I will try to use that more in my every day life. Thumper

I was very fortunate to meet him during the Atlanta Zendrum gathering several years ago. A great memory was all of us jamming together at my place. He was playing the melodic stuff. The group included Kim, Bob S., Mike Campasa (Thumper) , and Rob Anderson (Pocketmaster), and myself. There is a recording of it around somewhere. It was magical! Tom was a great musician and shared some wonderous stories with us. RIP Tom and thanks for your for inspiration. Mark

Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of a face to face, but corresponded a few times here on the forum. I watched his videos, and marveled at how he was able to take drumming and percussion to a new height.
He will be missed by all.
RIP Mayor.

I think I will spend a little time today thinking of the short time that I knew the Mayor Tom Roady. Its raining here in Texas and it looks like it will be a good day to setup my Zendrum and play awhile. Thumper

Tomorrow morning I will be heading out to Nashville to pay my respects to The Mayor and see my friend one last time, I am sure he will still be smiling.  I know he will never be forgotten by those he met either in person, phone or email.  He was a great person and can only hope that I could become as good as a person as he was.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make it to the service but I will be playing Zendrum today, as a tribute for all the good times and encouragement he gave me on my Nashville visits. That big smile was shared with millions of people.

Just got home from Tom's service in Nashville.
Ricky Skaggs' family played and sang and gave a human face to his passing.
Tears were shed, old friendships were renewed.
I kept thinking about how he was spared so much pain with such a poetic exit.
Listening to the music he recorded with both industry giants and even unknown guys like me I thought-
He lived an artistic dream many of us admired and aspired to.
He loved music and commited to the joy of it like no one else I've ever met.
He made all of us feel like his best friend.
I'll be playing my Zendrum and remembering how much The Mayor taught us.
Go well, Yer Honor.
Ya done good.
