USB 2.0 External Drive for BFD or DFHS?
« on: October 21, 2009, 06:49:36 AM »

Anyone using USB 2.0 External Drive with BFD or DFH Superior?

Shopping for a new Macbook. Latest release ones just have USB 2.0 (No firewire unless you spend the extra for a Macbook Pro now) Was thinking of an Iomega Minimax 1TB 7200rpm or similar External Drive

Maybe I should keep an eye out for a previous Macbook (with Firewire) or spend the extra for the MacbookPro?

Cheers
Mick

Hello,

I tried a USB2 external drive on my MacBook Pro - it was a 5200 RPM, bus powered model; inexpensive, small, cool - but had audio drop outs (running BFD1.5, Kontakt, Battery 3).

A while back I got a 7200 rpm glyph GT model that has USB2,  SATA, and Firewire connections (both 800 and 400).  I've been using that through Firewire 400 with no problem.   The gylph seems rock solid, though it was somewhat pricey.  It is not small or bus powered.

Maybe a 7200 RPM model would work for you through USB2.

good luck

I have had decent results with the usb ports for data, but it must be 7200 rpm or better.

The drive that I used was a Glyph Pocket Drive.

I got a 500gig Glyph from FullCompass for $219...I've had zero problems with it so far, but my MB Pro does have a firewire 400 and an 800 on it, as well as USB 2.0 x 2.
