ZenChat / Calling all Zendrummers!!!
« on: August 03, 2012, 10:19:44 PM »
Hey everyone,

Just wanted to give an update on the forum about this years Zendrum gathering.  October 12 and 13 of this year we will be putting together another get together for any Zendrummers and potential Zendrummers that are on the fence about getting one or not.  We have brothers coming up from Florida, Texas, and Illinois, and Georgia or course.  You never know, there may be those who might just pop in to see what is going on.  We are going to play with different modules and sound samples such as BFD2, Superior Drummer, Zendrum Drive, TD-20, Addictive Drums, and any others that show up.  We are also going to hear our Zendrums being played through Bose, QSC, Yamaha, and whatever else is there as well.  Friday night will be a get together, maybe some dinner, then a little show and tell followed by some playing.  Saturday will be the ins and outs of what everyone is using, tips and tricks, questions and answers, and whatever else we can come up with.  The first year we did this was with the Mayor Tom Roady.  He video taped 6 of us Zendrummers playing different things at the same time.  Someone played the banjo of theirs, drum kit on another, percussion on another, melodic synth pads on another, and so on.  It would be cool to do something like this again.  Feel free to contact me if you haven't already if you would like to attend, my email is rob@pocket-master.com.

Hope to hear from you,

ZenChat / 2012 Zendrum Gathering in Atlanta!!!!!
« on: July 10, 2012, 10:43:16 PM »
Fellow Zendrummers, Mark Greenbaum and myself are in the process of setting up our 3rd annual Zendrummer get together. I am throwing this personal invite to you in hopes that you will be able to join us in this event. We will be checking out the Zendrum Drive, BFD2, Superior Drummer 2.0, Ableton Live, Zen Edit, and many other options out there for use with the Zendrum. We are looking at the dates of either October 5th and 6th, or October 12th and 13th. It will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, home of Zendrum HQ. We are throwing this out now so if you want to attend you can plan ahead, we are also looking for feedback as to which weekend works for the majority. After we get feedback as to how many will make the trip to Atlanta, we will work out the logistics and get more details for those who are going to attend. This is a chance for those who have been playing for a long time to pass on experiences to those just starting and also get a chance to see and hear the advances in sound sample technologies out there and how others are using them. Mark and his wife have hosted the event for the past two years because we have had five fellow Zendrummers attend each year, to include David Haney and Kim Daniel, the founders. Please respond to this message to let me know if you are going to be there, not going to be there, or may be there, that way we can plan to make this event as successful as possible to help each other out with this great instrument.

Thank you,

Rob Anderson

ZenEdit / Problem with Zenedit 2
« on: March 02, 2012, 03:51:46 PM »
Not sure if these bugs have been addressed yet, I am using a MacBook Pro, when I first install ZE2, everything seems to work fine, the MIDI chase feature, and so on, as soon as I make some tweaks, export the MIDI directly to my ZX, it does it one time but says there were errors.  From that point it won't show the chase animations, and it will not export or import to or from my ZX.  I end up having to use SYSEX Librarian again.  If I uninstall and reinstall the software, it works again one time and then has errors again.  Just wanted to throw that out there.

ZenEdit / Just wondering....
« on: February 12, 2012, 09:25:41 PM »
On the first version of Zenedit, when we selected additional triggers, it gave me 6, with the new zenedit, I am only getting 5, of course it shows the two jack inputs on the tail, the sustain switch, and another pentagon looking pad as well, is that the 6th trigger?  Just wondering....I am going down to Atlanta to pick up a new ZX that has all 30 available triggers and was wondering why there isn't a 6th trigger with a circle.....?

ZenChat / Zendrummers in California
« on: April 28, 2011, 08:55:01 AM »
Hey tribe,

I have a friend that I have jammed with for the past few years on my Zendrum.  He is moving to the Oakland/Sacramento area of California and he is looking for another Zendrummer to jam with in that area.  Does anyone know of anybody in that area I can pass his info onto who ever wants it.  He plays bass, guitar, some keys and sings lead and background.

ZenChat / I guess the spammers are back in full force!!
« on: April 06, 2011, 05:31:33 PM »
They are back, maybe not the same ones from before, but they are back in full force.  I just logged in and it said there were 9 users logged in.  I looked to see who they were and there were at least 10 more registering for an account, I can only imagine that they are spammers too.  Bummer.

ZenChat / Time is getting close again!!
« on: March 30, 2011, 01:38:22 PM »
Hey Tribe!!

We are coming up on April and I feel it is time to put this out there!!  Last August, some of us in the Tribe had a get together in Atlanta and I would like this to be a normal annual get together.  Dr. Shark hosted the event last year and we had a nice showing.  Those that attended were Thumper, Dr. Shark, The Mayor, Inspector 109, Kim Daniel, Bob Santoianni, and myself.  We also did a Skype session with John Emrich.

I just want to throw it out again so we can get a date together that works for all that would like to attend.  It was very informal, we did not have anyone there to try and sell the latest and greatest modules and toys....this was a Zendrum gathering and we brought our rigs and our Zens and jammed out.  I really would like to do it again, I know there were some that could not attend because of scheduling conflicts.  Hopefully, by putting this out there now, schedules can be projected out and we can have more attend this year.

We chose Atlanta last year because that is where ZDHQ is located and it made it easier for the Inspector and Kim Daniel to attend, so I suggest we do it there again this year, but I am open to other locations.  St. Louis is where I am at and it is almost central to the entire U.S.  There are many places in the area that we could do it at, but it would cost some money for both the place and hotels for the guys coming in from out of town.

I would like some input so we can plan early and have a great get together again this year, and make it an annual thing.

Media / FC-300, Z4, and Ableton Live
« on: March 17, 2011, 01:44:51 PM »
Hey Tribe,

I have been asked several times for a setup diagram of my setup using my FC-300 foot controller.  I just uploaded a video that shows how I am using it with my setup.  I am using my Z4, Ableton Live 8 (which I am controlling using my FC-300), Superior Drummer 2.0 as a VST in Ableton Live, and all of that running off of my MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM.  The Audio is not as good as it could be (because of the camera I am using), but you get the idea.  I show my basic pad layout, how I am using the MIDI channel per trigger function on the Z4, and how I switch to different kits.  Let me know if there are any questions or something that I can go more in depth with.  I was limited to 10 minutes or less for youtube, but can make smaller segments going in more detail if need be.

ZenChat / Where do you live?
« on: February 04, 2011, 05:37:07 AM »
Hello Tribe,

I have been jamming on my Zendrum now for almost 2 years now.  Last August, a few Zendrummers to include myself got together in Atlanta, home of Zendrum HQ, and swapped ideas and setups for our Zendrums.  One thing that was clear, everyone had a different setup and everyone played their Zendrum differently.  I strongly recommend getting together with others that play a Zendrum.  I am sure there are Zendrummers out there that may live fairly close to each other and they don't even know it.  I want to see if there are others that live close to me so we can get together and swap ideas.  I know Peabody58 is within a few hours and The Mayor is 4 hours from me.  Is there anyone else?  I live in St. Louis.

I am asking everyone on the forum that plays a Zendrum to post what city they live in so we can be aware of who may be near us to bounce ideas off of.

ZenChat / New Upgrade!!!
« on: January 09, 2011, 06:52:19 PM »
First off I want to say a BIG thank you to David, Gina, and the rest of the family at Zendrum.  I just got back from Atlanta a few hours ago from getting my ZX upgraded to to the new Z4 chip, internal wireless and the internal battery, not to mention added some triggers where "I" needed them to be.  My ZX is now truly a one of a kind in the small sea of Zendrums out there.  I have only had it a few days and I highly recommend doing the upgrade as well as the internal stuff.  Playing it with the new triggers installed has also made it so much easier to play the sounds I want when I want to play them without stretching across my Zen.

I also want to put out another special thanks to DrShark and his wife for being great hosts for my visit.  DrShark took me down to ZDHQ and while we were there getting my baby upgraded, DrShark added a few triggers to his and now he is playing better than ever as well.  I hope to see more pics on this forum as well as on the facebook page (that is where Gina put the pics of our new babies) of others that take the plunge to get their Z4's.

Thanks to Tom Roady for putting me onto SD2 and the MacBook Pro.

Can't forget my wife for making this happen back in 2009 while I was home from Iraq for 2 weeks and had it the day I was heading back to the beach.

I feel my setup is complete and will only move forward from this point on.

Again!!! Thanks everyone for making this a part of my life and hope others are equally touched with what their Zendrums have done for them.

ZenChat / How Many Zendrums?
« on: November 11, 2010, 09:17:08 AM »
Quick question for the Inspector....to date, how many Zendrums have been built, and if you could, break it down by ZX, LT, and Zap.  I guess if doesn't matter if it is a Z4, datawheel, or Z3, just curious how many of each and total Zens have been made and are in circulation across the world.

ZenChat / The Air Force has a Zendrum and their not afraid to use it!!!!
« on: October 26, 2010, 01:00:00 PM »
Hey tribe, just giving everyone a heads up on in my opinion, good news!  I recently went over to one of the Air Force bands, one happens to be at the base that I am stationed at, and showed off my ZX to them.  Being the musicians that they are, they had heard of a Zendrum, knows who Futureman is and his association with the Zendrum and his Drumitar.  Bottom line, I rocked them so hard, they sent out their feelers for any of the seven Air Force bands in search of a Zendrum.  I remembered hearing that the band stationed in Nebraska had a Zendrum but didn't know how to use it and didn't want to take the time to learn, so it was on a shelf somewhere.

Today I was notified by my friends with the band in Nebraska that they have found their ZX that had been sitting on the shelf in their supply room, and are in the process of transferring it to the band here in Illinois.  The band here in Illinois has also contacted me and are ready for me to come over and give them a crash course on how to play it once it arrives.  I will be going over there in the next week or so to go over what sound modules they already have and what they may want to consider getting to get the most of their new  Expect to be hearing and seeing (via pictures and maybe some video) of the Air Force using this great instrument.

On a sad note, I many not be the only one that has taken a Zendrum to war anymore...:(.  The competition is getting stiff because the band is going to be heading over to the beach in a few months to entertain the troops and they may be leading the way with the Zen in front.

ZenChat / Guitar Center Drum Off
« on: October 15, 2010, 09:04:51 AM »
Hey all,

I played my ZX at the GC drum off store finale last night!  It was really fun.  Although I only played about 5 to 7 minutes, the look on everyones faces was priceless.  What really got them was when I added the percussion in with the drum kit beat.  The judges didn't even want to get up and decide the winner because they were so captivated with the Zen.  As soon as I get the video footage off of the camera, I will post a link on the forum to check out.  I say play out and as often as you can........POWER TO THE ZEN!!!!!!

ZenChat / Guitar Center
« on: September 18, 2010, 05:50:01 PM »
Hey everyone, I just got invited to play my ZX for one of the local guitar centers around St. Louis during their store level drum off finale.  They told me I could play solo or put a small band together to play for about 15 minutes while the judges decide the winner of the drum off.  I think it will be a lot of fun and great exposure for Zendrum.  The date is 14 October, I will see if I can get some video and or pics and put them up for the site as soon as I get them.
