ZenChat / Re: Share your Laptop Zendrum Layout!

This is my standard layout, and has worked great for the last 4 years.

Mine came with the larger pads on top.  I think for most playing techniqes, the larger pads work out better than the smaller ones.  But you can custom order your Zen however you want.

Hah! Post 13 and my Zendrum is on the way. Not only that, but I am told that mine is the best Zendrum they ever nade. The Stradivarious of Zendrums. David and Kim said that as they built it, it almost glowed with an inner beauty and strength that they had never seen before.

You were given a credit for your VDrum post count!   :D

Congrats on your new Zendrum, you'll love it.
Oh and get used to telling people, "It's not a toy, it's a serious musical insturment!"

Day 31 of 30-40. No call yet.

You silly rabbit - no Zendrum till your post count is 20 or more!  ;D

Hey now. You only have 12  :o  :o  :o
Hee Hee

Post count doesn't matter for eBay purchases or old timers like us who were Zenning before this awesome site was built (pre-Yahoo! Group days).  :)

1.  Your JBL set-up is more than adaquate. I use 1 JBL G2 and have no problems.

2.  Your TD-20 is an excellant sound module for the Zendrum.  You won't have any problems understanding the MIDI relationship.  Just remember to give yourself at least 30 days (normal learning curve) of playing with the Zen trying out every possible layout.  I use the TD-10exp with no problems at all.

3.  Your choice, but the ZX over the the Laptop is way cooler for playing live.  Heck, just buy both!  ;D

4.  As far a upgrades, get a Merge Brick in addition to the plastic Merge Box.  You'll appreciate the Brick's ruggedness, and will also have a spare at the ready.

Best of luck in your quest.

Welcome aboard Steve.  Great to see a fellow VDrummer make the transition.  Having corresponded with you several time at vdrums.com, I know you will love the Zen.  I still use the TD-10exp for the module, and I know the TD-20 will really do you well.  Recording with the Zen is such a joy.  My band just wrapped up recording our 6th CD tonight, and I used the Zen for 2 of the songs, pulling off simultanious quad hihat patterns and tom fills.  I would have needed 4 arms to do that on the trap set.  Enjoy!

Give yourself at least 30 days to play with all the settings, try differant layouts, find what your brain/hands works best for you.

It all comes together very quickly, and then it's just one new experiance after another.

Zendrum has about a 30 day learning curve before your brain syncs in with your fingers, that is assuming you are playing/practicing at least every other day for 30 days.

Jam to your favorite CDs (blues works well).

After that you just keep getting better.
