I have had pretty good luck with my JBL EON15 set up. I usually use one speaker, they have high / low eq and amp built in. Not too big or heavy and can sit straight up or in a monitor position. Pretty good low and high end balance for a good kick and cymbal sound. If you look around, you can get a pair for around $300.00.

User Reviews / Re: Trapkat 5Ks with Kurzweil sounds on board
« on: September 23, 2012, 08:30:30 AM »
I received my Trapkat 5Ks three weeks ago.

I purchased this controller because I wanted a midi kit that was compact and easy to move around. I have played with electronic drums and triggers for many years, my first being the Roland DDR-30 with MKS-70 and MKS-80 pads. I have made my own controllers and pads over the years, even a drumitar like Future Man's.

The bottom line............. I have always wanted a Zendrum & a Trapkat.

I have only managed to spend a few hours with it, mostly programing kits in Superior Drummer, EZ Drummer and BFD2. I like how that pads feel and play and I really like the size of the unit.

I have to say that it is this drummers opinion that the onboard Kurzweil drum kit sounds are sub-standard. It is my belief my old Alesis D4 and DM-Pro sounds are better. It is also my opinion that the onboard drum kit sounds cannot touch Superior, EZ Drummer or BFD2 kit sounds. The onboard sounds will do in a pinch, this will enable me to leave behind my rack modules as back-ups and lighten my load. My current onboard favourite is the Birch Kit. There is potential with some of the onboard percussion sounds, I haven't really had a chance to go there yet.

I will spend more time with it over the coming months and will try to post my progress.

I too will add that I am sad to hear this news as I am a newbie to the Zendrum community, in fact just starting out.
I refer to this forum information on a regular basis, it would be nice to have the archives at our disposal for reference.

Will there be an avenue for information, advise and support moving to facebook?, I sure hope so as I am feeling lost now.
(I am still trying to get my Zendrumm, HatKat and BFD to play nicely together)

Cheers and thanks for all your efforts.

Yahoo, direct midi connection.

Thanks for your efforts, I can hardly wait to give it a go.

NOTE: Feb 11, 2012

Darin, downloaded the new beta to give it a try.
Uninstalled old beta, I am getting a "trial period expired", it is asking for my registration info or for purchase?

Any advise?

Thanks

This spamming is sad, I am new to Zendrumming and this is disappointing.

This forum is great, thanks to everyone for sharing all this great info and guidance. I am new to the Zendrum community and just finished assembling my rig this past weekend. My observation was that each room does sound different. In my attempt to compensate and to keep the kits sounding as good as possible I put together my own rig and thought I might share with all of you.

It consists of my Zendrum, a Dell Laptop, Toontrack EZ Drummer, Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 USB, Alesis D4, Alesis Nanoverb, Samson PL1602 Rack Mixer and a 1U noname 350 watt power amp. (All mounted in a SKB rack case, laptop excluded). The amp is for my smaller JBL MS28 speakers. My primary system is a JBL EON15 set up.

As there are 4 outs on both the Scarlett and the D4 I was able to assign individual outs, snare, cymbals, toms, kick on both. I utilize Toontrack solo as my vst host.

My logic is simply that I can now mix and balance sounds with individual volumes and EQ'ing. I wanted to EQ my mixes for the various room issues that we all face. I can add or subtract highs and lows as needed.

I primarily use EZ Drummer at the moment, quick and simple, the D4 is there if I want the option, for example, change out an EZ brush snare with another snare really quickly, I turn down the EZ snare and turn up the D4 snare. No mouse fumbling or loading times to worry about. It works well to layer something like two kicks if need be.

I will put it to the test this coming Tuesday night.

My next step; to program my BFD to multiple outs to do the same as above, purchase a better rack mixer once my funds recuperate and get a better rack case to accommodate my laptop. (I really like the rack setup Darin posted, nice work)

Cheers to all.

Darin,

Thanks for the the quick response and direction.
Once you spelled it out for me, I had no issues getting Zenedit to do what I wanted.

Cheers, Darrell

ZenEdit / A little Advise for this newbee?
« on: May 22, 2011, 08:17:33 AM »
Hello to all, I am new to the Zendrum world as I finally own one.

I just purchased Zenedit 1.4.1, sysex dumps and midi communication are working just fine.

My issue is that I do not see anywhere in this zenedit version where I can load modules.
In the video tutorial, I can clearly see a task bar with setup and module in it, I can also see these items in the setup panes.
They do not appear on the version I have, again, I just installed it and it says this is the newest version.

Am I missing something?. any input or direction would be appreciated.

Cheers and thanks,

Darrell
