User Reviews / Personus USB Audiobox

Avast Thar Mateys,

Aye have heard many good things about the Personus Firebox.  But that requires a Firewire interface on the computer, which Aye don't have.  However, Aye found a Personus USB Audiobox, which looks very similar to the Firebox.  Do any of you mahvelous Zendrummers out there have any experience with this device?

Tech Help / BFD2 Questions
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:20:54 AM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

Well, the Olde Pyrate has walked off the edge of the plank (what in Neptune's realm was I thinkin) and purchased a brand new copy of BFD2 from me local Guitar Center.  I started to read the the manual (180 pages worth) and by page 16 I was already developing a Moby Dick sized headache.  The only thing advanced with this olde salt is me age. That being said, here are some questions I have.  First, my intention is to purchase a separate computer to install this beasty on.  The question that is starting to befuddle the Olde Pyrate is which one?  My choices are a) a Windows base i5 core laptop with 4Gb of RAM and a 500 Gb internal hard drive and an eSata port, or b) a Macbook Pro with 4 Gigs of Ram and a 500 Gb hard drive or c) an iMac with similar specs to the Macbook or d) a Mac Mini with similar specs.  Obviously there are pros and cons to each.  Apples be generally more expensive than a Windows PC.  Then there is the concern of throughput from an external hard drive (i.e. eSata vs Firewire 800).  Also there is the learning curve for MAC as the Olde Pyrate is a Windows saillor.  I am attempting to get this new rig in place and playing as quickly as possible.

Any suggestions regarding computers and external hard drives, eSata vs Firewire 800, etc are cordially invited.  Anyone in the area that might be able to provide some assistance in setting this thing up (Mr. Wizard, do you here this?) would also be greatly appreciated.

Avast Thar Mateys:

I found this interesting piece of equipment and was wondering if it might work with an external case and BFD2.
It's pricey but has no moving parts making it very rugged.  Might be good for the travelling zendrummer.

Avast Thar Zendrumdude,

I happened upon a video of Nine and Zen last night, one that I haven't seen before.  Great job using the Zen as a set of vibes.  I particularly liked the end where a little girl yells "Yeay Daddy" from the audience.  Hard to tell who's the daddy, but since you ended up waving to the audience, I can only presume that she was referring to you.  I had to smile (a rare event these days).

Tech Help / BFD2 and PC Laptop
« on: August 22, 2009, 10:56:11 AM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

I realize that many zendrummers use BFD 2.0 with a macbook pro.  However, being that the Pyrate has not had any luck in plundering any sailing ships lately, plus the cost of BFD 2 and certain expansion packs, plus an upgrade to Zendrum version 4, the cost becomes rather prohibitive.  So here is the question. I can get a brand new HP laptop with Windows & for under $600.00.  It has an Intel 2 duo core CPU, esata and 4 gigs of memory and a 500 Gbyte HD.  My intent is to remove any extraneous software and only use this PC for zendrum and BFD purposes.  Will BFD 2 work with a PC based system without any problems?  Also, if I wipe the hard drive slick and replace te operating system with LINUX, will BFD 2 work?

        Mr. Wizard, where are you?

Tech Help / New Mac Slim Notebook and BFD
« on: September 17, 2008, 03:56:09 AM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

Perhaps one of you fine tribe members may be able to answer the Old Pyrates quest for information.  I have recently been looking at the new ultra thin Mac laptops that have a solid state hard drive vs one with moving parts.  They come with 2 Gigs of RAM and the diskless drive is rated at 64 GBytes.  I was wondering if this is enough to run BFD 2.0 with John Emrich's Jazz and Funk Expansion Pack.  I like the idea of having no moving parts for durability sake.  and the lightweight and cmpact size of the laptop is appealing as well. I'm just not certain that 64 gBytes hard drive space is sufficient for BFD 2 and the Jazz and Funk Expansion.

Tech Help / Behringer FCB 1010

Avast Thar Mateys!!!

I am trying to find out if anyone has used a Behringer FCB 1010 Midi footboard. If so can you explain to me what you use it for.  I think I know what I can use it for, but before I go shelling out hard earned dubloons for it, I want to make sure I understand it.  Any help is appreciated.

ZenChat / Maryland Get Together
« on: February 02, 2007, 01:23:20 PM »
Avast Thar Mateys!!

I am planning a get together for the local Zendrummers in Maryland, DC, Virginia and wherever else anyone wishes to travel from.  Right now, I only have the date and general location selected,.  I have selected Saturday, 24 February 2007 as the date and the Annapolis, Maryland area for location (as it is the home area of not just yours truly but the Tribes own Mr. Wizard) (so I be a bit selfish, so sue me).   I am open to suggestions in the Annapolis area for a specific spot to meet and as to whether or not such a place would allow us to bring our various and sundry equipment.  I have also not set a specific time yet either.

Watch this space for further info as it develops.  Please RSVP to this subject if you intend to attend.
