« on: January 13, 2007, 11:08:43 PM »
no Zen on this vid he is playing the ROYALE (guitar pick nstrument) but this is an interesting Futureman (Roy Wooten) video I just found it's about a hour long and well done they describe his new instrument as a wierd pointy guitar looking futuristic¬  thing strange but interesting keyboard thing and it shows what midi can do

Yep Arizona going smokeless allot of cities already banned smoking now state wide which I sure don't mind since I quit 20 years ago but private clubs and dedicated smoking bars still out there so still good to know.  I'm not playing much anymore but did my time on that circuit.

Good to see your still out there Jeff any better luck with the Mac. :-\

the squid is cool because if has a curve to it with gel on one side it has a clamshell like construction that is the only drawback you put it on with a screwdriver so it pretty much stays on a strap where the standard is velcro and can be moved around the Chapman Stick (sorry about the typing) works well with the squid because it stays in place on the strap and has pretty good comfort for a heavy instrument.  The Chapman stick is a tapping instrument so it hangs diferently than a guitar alot like a laptop zen would hang.  I say would hang because I play mine on the stand probably 95% of the time.

Hope that helps like I said the only drawback I have seen on the squid is the mounting with a screwdriver so it doesn't move easily

Only way to go I use the squid model on my Chapman stck and a couple of guitars and the standard one on a notebook bag there great and really help with heavy instruments and long gigs

good question and important if you play in bars and luckily fairly easy to resolve I play guitar in bars fairly regularly and have had good luck with Fabreze or Nok-out (green label one) deoderizers I usually just dampen a rag and leave it in the guitar cases for a day or so dont wipe in on instruments just dampen the rag lightly and smoke smell is gone.  cofee grounds (dry) usually works well also same way just put in hardcase for a day or so. same thing can help a leather jacket in a box just don't get it on the leather

feasible probably

but lets think about this flying through the air with a large sharpened wood object?  sounds questionable at best and kinda like the epitaph in a old b vampire movie  ???

oh yes Carpal Tunnel will make you careful. I  had surgery on my right hand a year and a half ago left hand eight months ago all healed up now and pretty good but still cause some issues I started playing guitar 60 days after surgery but I put the zen aside for six months after the operations just hurt too much to play.  all better now and if anyone has severe Carpal problems the surgery works very well almost no pain now and allot better range of motion like they say remember to stretch and change position at signs of pain and/or numbness

Don't be too impressed  ::)

I own a chapman stick and a zen drum I really play guitar and other than that I would describe it as that I make melodic noises on the others is about all I can say the Chapman stick is a blast and as long as you don't think of it as a guitar your all-right it takes the mindset of a keyboard is the best way to describe it in my mind but they all make music and in the end thats all that matters.  as for the Zendrum I love it as I've described in other posts I have the laptop and keep it on a stand  I usually have it set up with world percussion sounds etc and walk up to it let the guitar hang and then I can aggravate the hell out of my drummer.

That used to be true now it's about 50-50 on which of us heads for the zen drum first but it goes home with me  ;D
