Avast Thar Mateys,

Aye will try and post this amid the maelstrom of spam that seems to have found its way into this website. Arrgghhh.  However, Aye digress.  Aye will be in Nashville, TN from 27-30 August 2012.  If there are any Zendrummers out there that would like to get together, Aye would welcome the opportunity.  We can hoist a flagon to our dearly departed Mayor, Tom Roady as well.

ZenChat / Pyrite coming to Graceland
« on: May 17, 2011, 07:59:16 PM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

Me First Mate and Aye are planning a long weekend for the 4th of July.  We be thinking about visiting Graceland, home of Elvis Parsley.  Not knowing the waters of Memphis, we be wondering what parts of town to avoid, where the safer parts of town be, etc.  Aye can get some decent hotel rates, but Aye don't want to park the Pyratecycle in a bad section of town (let's face reality, all major urban centers hve their bad parts).  Any assistance would be appreciated. Me thanks to the tribe.

White Noise / Rolling Thunder - Washington, DC
« on: March 30, 2011, 06:06:38 PM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

The Olde Pyrate wants to invite all ye to attend the annual Rolling Thunder event in Washington DC on 29 May 2011.  Imagine 500000 motorcycles descending into the nation's capitol.  It be an amazing sight to be certain. Now all you scallywags that served in the armed forces of these here United States of America, this be an especially emotional event.  It even brought this grizzled Olde Salt to tears.  So if ye can, make your way to Washington, DC on 29 May 2011.  Ye might even catch a glimpse of the Olde Pyrate leading a group of Harley riders into town.  And if ye have a Harley, I further invite ye to join me crew in riding from Bowie, MD into Washington, DC.  Just give me a strong hail and we will work out all the arrangements.

Remember our brave brothers and sisters in uniform and bring home those that are missing.

Avast Thar Mateys,

Today this Olde Salt acquired a brand new Macbook Pro with an Intel I5 CPU, 13.3 inch display and 4 Gb of RAM which Aye will eventually upgrade to 8 Gb of RAM.  Never having owned a Mac before, Aye be sure that Aye will have plenty of questions.  Hopefully ye Mac savvy shipmates will be of assistance to the Olde Pyrate.

Thank Neptune for military discounts and the fine State of Delaware for a lack of sales tax.

White Noise / Snow in Atlanta
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:26:02 AM »
Avast Thar Zendrum (Kim, Gina, David),

Aye wish ye a warm welcome to me world of the frozen North.  Aye know that they don't sell too many snow shovels where ye be!  Aye hope ye make it through this minor blow without too much trouble.  Stay home if possible.  If on the road, go slowly, but once moving, never stop.  Never stop ye car at the bottom of a hill.  Just some advice from an Olde Salt that has grown up with the white stuff from Hades (Aye checked this morning and yes, Hades has indeed frozen over). Stay safe.

ZenChat / A Word or Three of Immense Gratitude
« on: November 29, 2010, 03:55:18 AM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

As many of ye know, Aye have been a bit stymied with software sounds like BFD2, EZDrummer, Ableton, Pro Tools, etc.  Well last night Aye had the honor and privilege to parley on the phone with Zendrumdude, and in previous months Aye have also conferred with our tribal Mr. Wizard, John Emrich.  Aye say unto you now, that two nicer fellows you have never met (with the exception of Inspector 109 and his partner Kim).  They both spent considerable amount of time with the Olde Pyrate trying to explain to this befuddled brain the intricacies of BFD2.  Aye have learned much from both of them and Aye cannot thank them enough for their time and patience.  Aye cannot say I be an expert in BFD after such conversation, but Aye have managed to get better sounds from the dreaded than Aye did before.

To all of ye gentlemen Aye offer me humble thanks and a round of Captain Morgan when next we meet in person.

Avast Thar Mateys,

During Futureman's visit to Zendrum HQ, Zengina hinted at some new developments at Zendrum Labs.  Aye thought Aye might start this thread in the hopes that Inspector 109 or Zengina might provide some insight as to what is coming in the not too distant future, before the world ends in 1 year and 29 days!

Tech Help / Software Arrrgghhhh
« on: September 30, 2010, 05:19:15 PM »
Avast Thar Mateys,

The Olde Pyrate be gettin frustrated with this software drim thingy.  Aye got a very good deal at me local Guitar Center for a full version of EZDrummer (only $29.99). Aye already had EZDrummer Lite which came with me Presonus USB audio interface.  Aye liked the sounds that it had and it did not seem to have the same latency and echoing of sounds that BFD seems to have on me system.  Aye do admit Aye prefer the BFD2 interface and ease of setup.  But Aye digress.  Upon installation of the full EZDrummer package, Aye could not get any sounds out of me system.  As Toontrack be not having a tech support phone line in the US of A, Aye sent them an email explaining the issue.  Aye admit they responded within  24 hours.  However, Aye had already figured that me ASIO sound drivers be corrupted and reloaded them from the Presonus website.  That solved the problem.  Documentation on EZDrummer also be sorely lacking.  Toontrack provides a host program called Solo, which allows ye to run the EZdrummer program inside of it.  This be working fine, except Aye cannot access any of the sounds from my BFD sound files.  Also, in remembering some things that Mr. Wizard had mentioned to me when discussing BFD2, he suggested Aye open it within another host program such as DAW.  As it happens, one of the programs I acquired in me travels is Studio One.  Aye can load Studio One, Aye can set it up, Aywe can provide paths to me sound files, etc. ad nauseum.  Aye can open the Midi Monitor and Aye can see the midi messages flowing nicely from the Jolly Roger ZX, but (here be the frustrating part), I can hear no sounds and neither the EZDrummer nor the BFD2 GUIs appear.  This almost be enough to make this Olde Pyrate stick to me TD-20 or maybe acquire an Alesis DM-10.  There must be a class that someone Olde like meself can take to learn about all this bilgewater.

ZenChat / Talk Like a Pyrate Day
« on: September 19, 2010, 06:02:09 PM »
Yo Ho Me Harties,

Today, the 19th of September has been for the last several years been designated as Talk Like A Pyrate Day.  Therefore, towit, and hencforth rightly, ye scruvy sandcrabs that think ye may be up for a challenge, spend today talking like the Olde Pyrate here.  It be not hard as there only be a few letters in the Pyrate alphabet.  THere be Aye, Arrrr and the occassional Aaaaa (as in the Fonz).  So attnd to your nearest drinking establishment and have the serving wench pour a flagon of Captain Morgan Spice and hoist one to Talk Like A Pyrate Day.  And as an aside, remember that this Olde Pyartes, ship, the USS John Young (DD-973) has been recognized as the official ship of Talk Like A Pyrate Day, which should tell you something of the company the Olde Pyrate kept back in the days when ships were steel, men were iron, and sheep were very afraid.

Fair Winds and Following Seas,
Pyrate
