ZenChat / Anybody use an iPod as their soundsource?
« on: July 09, 2012, 12:43:24 PM »
So there's this thing called an iRig - a MIDI to iPod connector.  About $70.

Software (SampleTank iPod) for it is free for the demo, and $20 for the full, and something like $40 for every sample in their sound library.

From what I can tell, you cannot swap out individual sounds to customize kits, but if you buy all the drum packs, you have something like 80 preset kits from your iPod.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Hey all.

It is with a heavy and exhausted heart that Dave and I have agreed to shut down these forums.

All internet communication will be moved over to the Zendrum Corporation page over at Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zendrum-Corporation/125010544947

The constant hacking and spam attacks have become too much and we're tired of it.  It's gotten to the point that there are individual humans now picking past security rather than just sending robot attacks and there's no way to set up enough scripts to stop someone who simply lies about their intent to join the forum.  Every few months, we drop new security in place and every few months they find away around it.  More than once the scripts have blocked actual users from joining and that also creates a problem.

Facebook is where its at these days, so we're going to be shutting the doors here and heading there.

New users cannot register at all here from now on.  In a week or so, this page will just send you to Facebook.

If there are specific threads you want archived, or any other comments you have about this change, please feel free to note them below.

Music / My Son's NYSSMA music competition
« on: May 02, 2011, 09:16:07 AM »
My son (12) didn't want to try a Level 3 snare solo for the NY music competitions, so he signed up for Level 2.  This is rolls, dotted sixteenths, lots of crescendo press rolls, sixteenth note runs with odd accents and such like that.

He just got his grade of Oustanding: 27 out of 28.

What's the best cable to connect a PC to a Zendrum now?  USB, I assume, but what and where?

ZenChat / DM10 Oddity?
« on: November 03, 2010, 08:34:39 AM »
OK, so I've had a DM10 for about 9 months, and I've really started digging into it, especially with the Z4 upgrade.

And SOMETHING is wrong.

Sometimes all is great and then part way through a performance, the hi hat becomes muted and starts also triggering another note, possibly a kick drum.  Now, the DM10 allows group level change, and if I drop the hihat level, I still hear that kick drum.

I've also found that some times the entire tom set becomes muffled.  Or sometimes the snare.

Anyone have any clues?  Could this just be something like low batteries in the ZD?

ZenChat / Handling or Accepting Crosstalk
« on: October 04, 2010, 04:53:23 AM »
Anybody have a problem on a Z4 where when your floor is real low, ypu get some crostalk, but it only occurs on certain modules?

It would seem some modules impose their own unspecified floor.  On my DM10, sometims my hi hat also triggers the bass nexto to it.

The funny thing is, it only happens on fairly heavy hi hat hits, and I actually kind of like the extra punch it gives, so now I'm debating whether or not to bother fixing it.

Any one else find some levels of crosstalk "acceptable"?

ZenEdit / Integrated Wireless and SysEx

I'm assuming if I 'hardwire' my Zen with integrated wireless into a PC I should have no problem downloading/uploading.  Is there any additional step to take?

Music / Son's first jazz band solo
« on: May 27, 2010, 09:12:34 PM »
OK, it was recorded on a phone, so the quality isn't great and you can't see him, but the crowd reaction says it.

The song was Louie Louie, which was 7 minutes long. This is his 10 seconds.

Oh yeah - he's 11.

Perhaps this should be instituted as some sort of Zen Forum holiday.
